“Inverness Heritage Cattle” – Best of the small breeds

cowsize

“Inverness Heritage Cattle” are founded on selected blood-lines introduced to Australia from the USA in 1994.  The USA bloodline closely resembles the original Hereford breed from the UK going back 7 centuries.

17 years of experience by the “Inverness Heritage Cattle” founders in Australia has resulted in perfection in the original horned Hereford lines.

In the past 8 years new lines have been introduced – including Poll miniature Herefords, Belted Galloways, Angus and Dexters – giving buyers a wider choice of animals to suit their preferences for colour or breed type.

These hand-picked animals generally display the characteristics of official “small breeds” established since the 1970s in USA, Canada and Europe.

Many of those animals bred by “Inverness Heritage Cattle” are direct descendents of well known prize winning small breeds in the USA and Canada.  The foundation herd for “Inverness Heritage Cattle” was imported by us direct from 3 leading breeders in North America.

The advantages of Heritage Cattle?

Heritage Cattle bring owners the benefits of cattle lines that predominated in Europe until the late 1800s, when most cattle breeds were significantly smaller that they are today.

These are the typical benefits of small breeds:

  • Smaller animals are easier to handle. We also select for good temperament
  • They are less likely to damage fences, dam walls and fragile soils
  • They are “good doers”. When feed is short, they usually keep their condition better than larger animals sharing the same pasture
  • They mature early and can be sold ready to breed or for meat at an early age
  • They are perfect for small-farms, or owners who are new to raising cattle, or experienced cattle people looking for a new marketing edge.
